Why are fossil fuels the problem?

It pollutes our air, water and soil. Our lungs have to pay the heavy price of using fossil fuels. There are only finite sources on our planet.

India's energy needs are derived largely from fossil fuels and not renewable energy. Fossil fuels, such as coal, are polluting the planet, and making us sick. They release far more greenhouse gases and the process of extracting them hurts forests, vulnerable communities and our access to resources such as clean water.

What is the solution?

Change the way we make energy. Solid planning, keeping in mind economic growth as well as protection of vulnerable communities can help us move to clean and renewable energy over a steady period of time, reducing drastically, our impact on the planet.

We're calling for a 'Just Transition' to clean and renewable energy, which means shifting to sun (solar), wind, tidal. It’s available in abundance. So what are we waiting for?

I think, now slowly and steadily, everyone needs to change their transport attitude as well in order to maintain the many positives of the environment that we are seeing now due to lockdown. People will need to stop using petrol and diesel vehicles and instead switch to electric automobiles. We should depend more on public transport than on our own vehicles. At policy levels, we have initiated these changes and will continue to strengthen it more in the coming years.
